@Dr2005

Just for information we disscuss the immatriculations plates of all the troleys you have, here trolleybuses does't have any plates but only numbers.

Concerning the parking of cars,we have the same problem too-everyone parks everywhere but in communism it was a practice to make streets with trolleybus wider exactly to avoid that kind of problems .

You are welcome to Pernik even depending on date you can stay in my home there is no problem ;) Althought I don't recommend it. Pernik is a classic ex-industrial city with everything that goes with. No cultural monuments to see(except one), no vegetation , big pollution. And you won't be glad of our DACs :( Would better stay in Sofia where is more interesting and it's the capital and come for a day - Pernik is 25 kilometers away from Sofia and I travel every day from home to Sofia where I study and work-transport communication are really good (trains every 40 minutes, buses every 30 minutes, minibuses 15 minutes) .I checked in BDZ's (our trains operator) site and found that ticket full price from Ruse to Sofia costs 17.20 BGN (approx. 33 RON ) is you buy it in a station I dont know where you found 31.95 BGN but I think this is the cost of Sofia-Bucarest train ;)

If you have International Student Identity Card (ISIC), you can use 50% discount of the ticket price.

The story with the plates, it depends on national regulations sometimes. The fuel engine is only one reason. Some times ago, in Paris the buses had special plates with their fleet number, not regular one for the other cars.

Our Irisbus Trolleybuses (and all other trolleybuses in Bucharest) have NO Diesel engine or other type of auxiliary drive. I once pushed an Irisbus trolleybus that went too far from the wires

The registration numbers are given by municipalities to vehicles that do not need to be registerd by the Police. In this category we have: trams, trolleybuses, mopeds (with a power under 50 HP) and some machines ("picamer" for example - I do not know hot to translate it, it's a machine used to break the asphalt).
An interresting situation is in Timişoara: the Irisbus Citelis trolleybuses from there have Diesel engines and can be used also as buses, but they were registred as trolleybuses and RATT (Regia Autonomă de Transport Timişoara) is allowed to use them only under the trolleybus wires.

So, if I get myself an ISIC card, I can get a 50% discount on BDZ's trains? That's good news.
For journeys inside Romania I can use a 50% discount at regional trains (unlimited journeys) and 50% at the differences for semi-fast and fast trains (24 journeys / year). But CFR offers no discount on international routes :( ... for example, when I went to Austria, I bought 2 tickets: one from Bucharest to Curtici - border station - and one from Curtici to Viena, to get the 50% discount for the distance inside my country.

That DAC 117E was tested in Belgrad, but returned to Romania... also, a DAC 217E was tested in Chişinău (Republic of Moldova), bat it was returned. I believe these vehicles were sent in Kiev or Kharkiv, Ukraine. Both cityes have (well... in Kiev they are not in service anymore) DAC 217E trolleybuses (to Kiev also at least one 112 E and one 117E with 3 doors, like the ones for Bogota) from 198x, and Kharkiv also bought Rocar 217E in 1995-1996 (so they liked them).
---
Today we had a strike at RATB, so no public transport in Bucharest was available to the people (except the subway, that's otehr company... but there are many areas of Bucharest without subway). The result was a completely BLOCKED traffic and crossings (so not even a taxi could be used... because the traffic was jammed) plus delays at jobs and schools and a lot of "good words" to RATB's personnel and their mothers.

The strike ended at 6 PM, but most of the driver refused to drive (so there are only a few vehicles in service at this moment).

The list of requests and a short commentary of mine, where needed:
- to respect the age for retirement
- better work condition (how better? They have new buses and trolleybuses)
- new trams (!)
- 25% of their salary bonus for Easter (and they got it... however, many employees in other domains have no such "gift")
- 80% bonus for holiday (many employees in other domains have no such "gift")
- payments according to the inflation's rate
- to pay double wor the hours worked on Saturday and Sunday and three times for those worked on National Holidays (the law said that the hours worked on Saturdays, Sundays and National Holidays are paid double or a free day is given)
- to increase the number of vehicles on extra-urban lines (that's very necessary)
- to increase the number of vehicles in service in week-ends and holidays (that's also a very good ideea)
- to respect the time spent at the end of line (what time? Some routes have very "large" times to stay at the end of route, even 50 minutes!)

The salary of a bus driver with 1 year of experience, whitout benefit for "hard route" (some long and busy routes, ussually central) and without 2% bonus ("merit payment") is about 1700 RON (about 415 euro). An experienced driver can get more than 2400 RON (585 euro).
To make a comparison, a teacher with all proffessional degrees, 2% bonus, 30 years of experience and all other extra-benefits available has a salary of maximum 1600 RON (390 euro).

...
The vehicles were payd by the municipality, from the local budget. The situation is with the 1000 (yes, 1000 :( ) Citaro. They also wanted to by some coaches for the personnel ... but the auction was canceled because the winner was not Mercedes.

- Bucharest bought 1000 Citaro buses made at a factory in Mannheim, Germany.
- Timişoara has 55 Conecto made in Turkey and will have other 30 Conecto LF G /articulated).
- Craiova has NO Citaro / Conecto (in fact, they just bought 40 ... MAN)
- Braşov has 15 Conecto
- Oradea has 15 Conecto
- Bacău has min. 28 Conecto
- Târgu Mureş and Târgovişte have NO Citaro / Conecto
- Zalău has at least 3 Conecto
- Baia Mare has 20 Conecto
That's the situation for the local transport companies; some private companies (from Bucharest, Giurgiu, Târgovişte, Constanţa, Oradea and probably some others) bought a number of Conecto for regional transport or for the transport of their employees. Also, a lot of Travego and Tourismo coaches were purchased by several private companyes.

There are NO Ikarus buses left in service in Bucharest, except #46 and #55 that are modified for passengers in wheelchairs and used for special ocassions. There are a few private Ikarus 255, 256 and 260 buses that can be seen in Bucharest.
However, you can still find Ikarus buses in Ploieşti (65 units), Giurgiu, Feteşti (even 2 former RATB buses are there), Piteşti, Timişoara, Sibiu, Alexandria, Satu Mare, Baia Mare, Târgovişte etc..

Go to Ploieşti, is 59 km North of Bucharest (1 h 15 min by regional ("Personal") Train, 50 minutes by semi-fast ("Accelerat"), Fast and IC train) and you will find 65 Ikarus buses (260 & 280) for public transport + many private Ikarus 255, 256, 260, 263, 280.
Or you can find a few Ikarus buses in Giurgiu (very close to Ruse, only 3 km, on the other side of the Danube river).
